Paseo del Siglo - Boulevard Oroño
Listen to the audio guide
On both sides of the boulevard there are mansions and other buildings reflecting the opulence of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Bars and restaurants along the trace are the ideal complement for this traditional local walk.
The centric path hosts historic mansions of wealthy families from 19th and 20th Centuries, which in some cases were converted in institutional buildings (schools, private hospitals, etc.)
This boulevard was inaugurated in 1868 as Boulevard Santafesino, and it was part of a program of the incipient municipality (created in 1862) to embellish the city. At that time it had 23 000 inhabitants and included the inauguration of Boulevard Argentino (then Av. Pellegrini) It was chosen for many high class families to build their mansions, some of them still persist. In 1904 its name changed to Nicasio Oroño, who was the major of Rosario and Santa Fe Governor between 1864 and 1868.
This area, named Paseo del Siglo is comprised by 7 blocks from Córdoba Street between Boulevard Oroño and Paraguay St. Its name derives from the historic buildings that were protected by a municipal program in order to preserve the construction heritage.
